Been a little busy...

So this travel blog will be happening! I've just been busy, well, traveling :D

Over the past couple of months, I've been between Los Angeles and Honolulu (standard) but also had the chance to visit New York City and Osaka. Both are amazing cities, and even though I had been to both destinations before I always seem to discover something new while I'm there.

School also just started last week, so I've been trying to finalize my schedule and all that jazz. Expect a super cool post sometime soon though!

Time for a revamp

So I'm on my break in between the end of classes and the start of finals, and what better way than spending it in a spontaneous week-long vacation with my mom! When I was on the phone with her yesterday as I was waiting for boarding in Los Angeles, she gave me a great idea...

One of my favorite things to do is traveling. Its so much fun to go to new places, try different things, and just to be in a different environment that its like I get contact-high for the duration of my trips. I come up with all of these pointers and stuff, but never really write them down. So not only is it hard for me to remember the exact details, but then I also have a hard time when people ask me for tips and suggestions. My mom suggested that I keep a traveling blog, so basically that is what I will be trying to achieve here. I will still keep my personal anecdotes, but obviously those are far and few to begin with.

I'll start off simple, with places I've been, and different suggestions for these places. At first I was thinking of doing big posts for every destination, but that would be a little too intense. I'll do smaller posts, focusing on just a few things, and then have more posts for a single destination. Does that make sense? Probably not, but bear with me here. I am hoping that this can take off and maybe help others who are planning trips and want suggestions.

Suggestions are welcome, as always. Wish me luck!!

Digging up the time capsule

My my...its been quite a while since I wrote a blog post. Almost two years! I'd be lying if I said nothing's changed since my junior year of college, which is when I last blogged.

For one thing, I ended up reviving my Facebook page. Although not a day has gone by where I haven't thought about deactivating it again!!

So my blog revival started really because of two friends...Winston and Nicole who are both currently blogging their thoughts as well. Maybe, I thought, if I have friends that are blogging I might also be inclined to do the same! O__O so we shall see how this goes.

Today, I had a midterm exam for my special topics class in high voltage DC transmission systems (EE 599). Yeah...another big life update. I'M IN GRAD SCHOOL. It's so weird now how when I go to campus I think about how at least half of all the people I see are younger than me. And I'm not a Green Tech student anymore, but an EE student. Which is kind of scary. Am I getting myself in some deep kimchee here? Is EE way too over my head, especially coming out of undergrad with an ISE degree? So far, everything is just fine. I'm not failing any of my classes (big thumbs up for that) and I've even had two EE internships since the last time I wrote. Which just goes to show you

anything is possible

no matter how crazy or wild it may seem to be initially.  And I'd like to think that this lesson is the most important thing I've learned in the past couple of years. Anything, good or bad, big or small, smart or dumb, chocolate or vanilla, can happen to any given person at any time without regard to anything else that is happening in this world. And because anything is possible, I've learned that I must always

be prepared

to spend days out of my weekend flying to Hawaii only to return to the mainland within 6 hours, or to drink one too many happy hour margaritas at La Barca, or to kick back once in a while since there's no one at USC to hang out with and spend a few hours (or half a day) watching Korean dramas on your mom's online account.

My most recent completion, by the way, is "I Do, I Do" which was really great because the main characters and conflicts centered around a shoe designer and her work place (a shoe designing company). Also known as heaven if you ask me.

Basically, since my last blog post, this is how I've decided to live my life...by remembering that anything is possible and to always be prepared for what lies ahead. I feel like I've taken it to heart, and now as I graduate for the third time in my short and illustrious life, I think I am finally at ease with leading my life in this way. Especially since I have no backup plan this year, there are way more unknowns than I am comfortable with.

As I read my old posts before reviving my blog, I laughed and thought to myself, WOW...the things I thought were so important before really didn't matter too much in the bigger picture. When I read this post in a few years, what will I say to myself?? Will I still be living my life as a prepared person ready for limitless possibilities? Or will I be a beach bum sipping my maitais by day and working Mai Tais at night...maybe its best not to think about that for now and just sit back as things take their course. Either way, I'll be ready.

Days 7 - 10: The Final Four

Final Four already?? I guess so, if you're asking about school days! I just had my last class for the fall semester, and its pretty weird to think that I'm practically halfway done with my time here at USC. 5 more semesters seems like a lot, but considering how quickly the first 5 went by means that this second half will be even faster.

So now that classes are over...its time to get cracking on those finals. On Monday, I found out that I got an A in ISE 225 (Engineering Statistics) thanks to a score of 130/130 on my second midterm...which means I have the ability to not take the final exam while not feeling guilty about it. Yesterday, I found out that my IOM 431 (Managing Businesses for the Digital Revolution) final will be a take-home exam. And today, I had my final for PHED 140A (Tennis). Which means I only have three "exams" during finals week. And since I'm taking ANTH 263 (Exploring Culture Through Film) with a pass/no pass grading option, I just need to pass that final and I'm good. So after all of that, I have two finals that really matter, plus one take-home exam as well as a final project due within the next 12 days. Which is really not that much work, considering the fact that I have so much time to do everything! Now that my ISE 440 (Work, Technology, and Organization) presentation is out of the way, its smooth sailing from here! Sort of.

Oh, and my progressive degree application. For an MS in Green Technologies and Engineering. Funny how I'm already thinking about GRAD SCHOOL?! I guess its never too early, but really, this is a bit ridiculous. That's due in a couple of weeks, but I'm practically done with it (except for trying to get in touch with a professor who's kind enough to write a letter of recommendation for me).

The only thing that's been on my mind for these past 4 days was school, and now that its all over, I'm still thinking about school. Ridiculous.

Well Third Eye Blind is playing at USC tonight, so I guess I'll go and check that out later and temporarily put myself out of this boredom by finding addicting online games while I wait.

Day 6: Confusion and recuperation

Well, today's definitely been an interesting day.

I thought I was going to sleep around 1-something this morning, since I'm still on Hawaii time. WRONG. I ended up going to sleep around 7:15 am. Ridiculous, right?? Now why on earth would I EVER stay up so late?

As you could guess, it was all thanks to confusion. Some definitions of confusion, thanks to www.dictionary.com, include the following:

-the act of confusing

-the state of being confused.

-disorder; upheaval; tumult; chaos.

-lack of clearness or distinctness.

-perplexity; bewilderment.

The confusion I was faced with in the wee hours of the morning was due to the fourth definition...a lack of clearness or distinctness. More specifically (or as specific I'd prefer to be in a blog post), this confusion stemmed from a lack of clearness embedded in my interactions with another person. And this person was at my apartment, for 5 FREAKING HOURS, during which I was tired and somewhat dehydrated (which is beside the point) and just straight up confused. Part of this confusion comes from a string of online chats we've had within the past month, and the other part just materialized over the past few days in conjunction to the fact that we've known each other for several years. I'd like to think that matters are settled, but people are so irritating sometimes that I know this madness and confusion won't be over for a while.

Anyway, I finally got rid of the previously mentioned person and was able to sleep until 11:00 am, at which point I dragged myself out of bed, drank at least half a gallon of water, and miraculously biked over to University Gateway to work on Operations Research homework with Michael.

It is tradition that I always have a headache while doing ISE 330 homework, and although this headache wasn't from the usual reasons, I had a huge one. After half a taquito, even more water, and 4 hours, we were able to finish 6 of our 10 problems in the set. Talk about exhaustion!

The rest of the evening was spent catching up with Gita and Amanda (and going over our Black Friday purchases) before heading over to campus for a friend's birthday.

Did I mention this friend is the same person that kept me from a good night of sleep?! Nevertheless, friends are friends, and although it was slightly awkward, I pulled through and made an early escape back to the confines of my apartment. I finished a scholarship application, took a shower, read Lauren's college essays, and wrote a blog post! Life is obviously good, but it might have been a little better if I had chosen to save the blog post for later. Its good that I didn't, since I'm sure I'll find this rant of mine hilarious when I read this in the future. But all I want to do right now is sleep.

Too bad I'm going to have to wake up in 7 hours anyway. At least 7 hours is better than 4 hours!
